Recognizes the work of professionals that investigate healthcare concerns

[Raleigh, NC] The Association of Healthcare Facility Survey Agencies (AHFSA), the trade organization that represents survey agencies, recognizes the week of August 11 through the 17th as “National Healthcare Surveyor Week.” This week celebrates the achievements of thousands of professionals across the country who work everyday to protect healthcare consumers.

Healthcare providers are supposed to provide high quality care in alignment with federal and state regulations. To ensure that this takes place, healthcare surveyors perform surveys. These inspections, which are largely conducted onsite, check whether healthcare providers conform with requirements. If there are identified issues, healthcare surveyors make sure that the problems are corrected. According to publicly accessible data, in calendar year 2023, 9,980 preventive inspections of nursing homes – one of over 20 provider types - were conducted. Many of these inspections take place on nights, weekends and holidays to ensure that there is a accurate view of conditions.

As a means to further publicize the motivation and success of surveyors, AHFSA has recorded a series of short interviews with healthcare surveyors and leadership. Videos from this series will be released one per day during National Healthcare Surveyor Week on the AHFSA LinkedIn webpage.

“Surveyors dedicate their careers to protecting others. This week recognizes how their tireless efforts fulfill this objective,” said Mark Hennessey, President of the Association of Health Facility Survey Agencies.
